“I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me and hear my speech” – Psalm 17:6
KJV
A prayer in the most basic sense is a conversation with God. As believers, we are called to cast all our cares upon Him, to abide in Him and to trust wholeheartedly in Him because He is our strength, our shield & buckler; our very closest friend. Throughout the Bible, we have many examples of heartfelt petitions made to Our Heavenly Father. Enoch walked with God, daily communing with Him. Abraham spoke daily with God, as a friend to a friend. The Psalms are littered with prayers from David, a man after God’s own heart. For these patriarchs, prayer was not a chore or something they had to do, it was as necessary to them as their every breath. Martin Luther said, “to be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing”.
“In the morning, prayer is the key that opens to us the treasures of God’s mercies and blessings; in the evening, it is the key that shuts us up under his protection and safeguard.” – Billy Graham.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us to pray ceaselessly. This doesn’t mean that we must always be on our knees in prayer, but rather to always have a prayer on our lips. In fact, there are many different postures you can adopt when you pray (such as: standing, prostrate, head bowed, hands lifted, laying down, etc); the important thing to always remember is that it is more important to position your heart and your spirit rather than your body when you pray.
Prayer is a way of life that we all should aspire to. As we endeavour to grow on our journey with Jesus, we pray this is a safe corner that we can pray for and with each other and grow together.

Overthinking

Though I fall prey to negative thoughts and overthinking, help me to use the truth to chase away the lies that seek to take root in my mind. Forgive me for doubting Your Word in times past, forgive me for worrying when you’ve clearly stated and proven that You’re in control. Help me to stand on Your word always and to freely cry out to you for help in times of struggle. Lord I believe, help thou mine unbelief. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
